3 Common Blocks to Self-Pleasure and How to Overcome Them

I talk about self pleasure constantly because I know first hand the powerful transformation a good pleasure practice can create. Self pleasure and solo sex can support us in exploring our sexuality, building sexual confidence and finding a way to connect with our bodies.

And, I also know that many people struggle to commit to a consistent self pleasure practice. Does this sound like you? Are you finding it difficult to make time for self-pleasure? Are you struggling with conflicts with your partner or simply not feeling the desire to explore your own sexuality?

These are common blocks to self-pleasure that many people face. Be sure to read to the end because I am also sharing simple and practical strategies to overcome these blocks!:

No time in your schedule

We live in a fast-paced world where time seems to be in short supply. It's easy to put off self-pleasure when we feel like we have too much on our plate. However, prioritizing our pleasure is essential for our overall well-being. The first step to overcoming time restrictions is to recognize that self-pleasure is important and deserves a place in our busy schedules, just like everything else.

To make time for self-pleasure, start by looking at the natural flow of your life and ask yourself “how much time do i actually have for self pleasue?” it doesn’t have to be a 2 hour ordeal, it can be a 15-30 minute practice.

You can also try combining self-pleasure with another activity, such as taking a bath or practicing yoga.

Partner Conflicts

There is a misconception in our world that solo sex is off limits when you are in a relationship. Some people feel betrayed or feel that their partner is not satisfied if they feel the need to self pleasure. This, like sooo many other myths, is rooted in patriarchy and purity culture. The most important intimate relationship we will ever have is with ourselves. Maintaining a healthy connection with ourselves means tending to our wholistic wellness. It's important to remember that self-pleasure is a normal and healthy part of sexuality, and that it can actually improve your relationship with your partner.

To overcome partner conflicts, communication is key. Talk to your partner about your desire to explore your own sexuality and explain how it can benefit your relationship. Encourage them to do the same. If your partner is not supportive, consider seeking the help of a therapist or coach who can help you work through the issue together.

Lack of Desire

Sometimes, we simply don't feel the desire to engage in self-pleasure. This can be due to stress, fatigue, or a variety of other factors. However, self-pleasure is an important aspect of our sexuality and can help us feel more connected to our bodies and our desires.

To overcome lack of desire, try exploring new forms of self-pleasure. This could include using different types of toys or experimenting with different fantasies. You can also try incorporating mindfulness practices into your self-pleasure routine, such as breathing exercises or meditation. Finally, it's important to remember that desire can ebb and flow, and that it's okay to take a break from self-pleasure if you're not feeling it at the moment.

Your self-pleasure practice is just that, a practice. These blocks may take time to overcome, but YOU CAN DO IT BABY! By recognizing and overcoming these common blocks, you can create a more fulfilling and authentic pleasure practice. Remember to make time for yourself, communicate with your partner, and explore new forms of pleasure. You deserve it!

I hope this blog post helps you overcome any blocks you may have to self-pleasure.
